On March 22, the kick-off conference of the project "Supporting Structural Change in Ukraine's Coal Regions", implemented in partnership with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), took place in Lviv Oblast, which became a pilot for this project. The event discussed the possibilities of a fair transformation of coal regions, in particular the Chervonohrad microregion.
Deputy Mayor of Pokrovsk, Andriy Zalivskyi, Mayor of Chervonohrad, and Borys Karpus, Mayor of Novovolynsk, met with Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice President of the European Commission for the European Green Deal, in Kyiv on January 9. During the meeting, Frans Timmermans expressed his willingness to discuss with the leaders of the mining communities the issues of further transformation of the coal regions, in particular, solving the problems that arose in the communities during the war, as well as steps for the successful implementation of the transformation.
Despite the full-scale war, Ukraine's coal mining towns are abandoning the policy of static and striving for a fair transformation after the victory. They are ready to plan this transformation now. This was stated by a delegation of coal towns at a meeting in Brussels as part of the Western Balkans and Ukraine Coal Regions Transformation Initiative, which took place on November 22-23.
Experts of the NGO "New Ukrainian Community" with the support of GIZ developed the concept of an industrial park in the city of Chervonograd, Lviv region.
During the speech at the Ukrainian Israeli Innovation Summit 2021, First Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Vasyl Lozynsky said that in 2022 UAH 400 million is provided to co-finance the construction of infrastructure for industrial parks. According to him, these funds are intended for the construction of roads and communications to industrial sites on the terms of co-financing with local budgets.
